So today I had a notification on my phone that my Amazon delivery was 1 stop away. I was at home and ready to answer the knock at the door.

I checked my phone again a few minutes later and it showed the location of the driver as at my house. There was no knock so I checked outside and saw a van parked just a little way down. No sign of the driver though and so after 10 minutes or so I checked online again. The map still showed the van in the same place but now instead of "1 stop away" the page said "the driver has to make a couple more stops before s/he gets to you". I thought that was odd. Normally the page will say how many stops away the driver is and you can see where they are. But this vague "couple more stops" with the van clearly showing on the map as at my house just didn't ring true.

Anyway time passed and no updates on my parcel. About an hour after the notifo that said my parcel was one stop away I heard a voice outside and opened the door. The delivery driver had been walking to my door and had stopped to take a phone call. In his hand was whole bunch of "sorry we missed you cards" and no parcel. He claimed to have left the parcel at the house across the road because I hadn't answered the door. I called him out on that. My front door opens into my living room. He has to cross the front window to reach the door so I'd have seen him and if he'd knocked I'd have heard him. Plus, I was expecting him so I was looking and listening for him. Anyway the driver went across the road and retrieved the parcel.

What this looks like to me is that the driver drops off a whole load of parcels with his mate, the bloke across the road, enjoys an hour chatting and drinking coffee and then slips "sorry we missed you" cards through all the doors where he should have delivered the parcels. This is a much quicker process than delivering parcels and allows him to make up lost time.

If you get cards like this through your letterbox when you've been home and the driver hasn't knocked, comment below. Who knows maybe your driver has a mate in the same street and is leaving your parcels there so that he can put his feet up for an hour.

Reason of review: Problem with delivery.

Preferred solution: Better interview and screening process for delivery drivers. Don't employ drivers who lack integrity..
